Federals destroy 17 Chechen rebels Wednesday

KHANKALA. Dec 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal servicemen came under fire 14 times in Chechnya on Wednesday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Federals destroyed 17 extremists and detained four suspected members of illegal armed formations, the spokesman said. There have been no reports on losses among the servicemen.

Several pinpoint operations were carried out in the volatile republic on Wednesday, including in the villages of Elistanzhi, Khatuni, Chishki and Zony. Besides, federals destroyed two guerrilla camps, two arms and ammo caches and 11 illegal oil refineries.
