New Russian route radar submitted for tests

MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax-AVN) - The local Lianozovo electromechanical plant has submitted the Lira-T route radar station for tests to be held jointly with the customers, a plant spokesman said on Thursday.

The Lira-T is intended for guaranteeing redundancy of all equipment that is required for a radar position to control air traffic, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. The station was designed through modernization of standard route radar positions used by the State Civil Aviation Service.

The station comprises two Lira-TVK surveillance radars with in-built secondary locators and state identification equipment, the APOI-TVK duplicated equipment for primary data processing, as well as the TOPAZ-2000 data display complex with redundant equipment.

According to the spokesman, commissioning of the Lira-T system will allow the Unified Air Traffic Control System to built radar positions of extra-high availability without investing lots of money. The positions can be used for both civil and military purposes, he said.
