MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Major General Alexander Shereshkov has started taking the office of the Land Forces deputy commander in charge of logistics and head of the Land Forces logistics, a spokesman for the Land Forces Staff told Interfax-Military News Agency.
Shereshkov will arrive in Moscow from the Siberian military district on Friday, the spokesman said. Prior to his current appointment he was chief-of-staff of the district's rear. His appointment was announced a month ago, but he could not arrive in Moscow earlier because he was on a mission in Chechnya.
Shereshkov was born in the town of Labinsk in 1953. He graduated from the Chelyabinsk Higher Military Automobile Command College in 1975 and subsequently held command post in the college and in the Soviet troops group in Germany. Later he served in the Trans-Caucasus military district as deputy commander of a regiment in charge of logistics, in the Moscow military district as deputy commander of a division in charge of logistics, and in the North Caucasus military district as deputy commander of the 58th army in charge of logistics.
Shereshkov graduated from the Military Academy of Logistics and Transport in 1988 and General Staff Academy in 1997. He participated in combat and anti-guerrilla operations in the North Caucasus.
