SEVEROMORSK, Northern European Russia. Dec 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Northern Fleet Commander Admiral Gennady Suchkov is satisfied with the results of the inspection of the Vudyaevo, Gadzhiyevo and Polarny garrisons, a spokesman for the fleet headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
Suchkov is to continue his inspection of the fleet garrisons this week. He is to visit the garrison of Zapadnaya Litsa where a flotilla of nuclear submarines is based and the Belomorsk naval base in the town of Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region.
In accordance with the admiral's assessment, it is too early to make any conclusions concerning the state of the fleet. Suchkov said the initial inspection of the garrisons made a most favorable impression on him. The academic year of the fleet began in due order, with the organization of the training procedures complying with the corresponding requirements.
Suchkov served with the 40th division of diesel submarines based in the Ekaterininskaya Bay in the early 1980s. Being a commander of a torpedo group of a mine and torpedo section, he was then promoted to the commander of a submarine squadron of the Northern Fleet.
