MOSCOW. Dec 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia is negotiating with the Tajik government on new stationing areas of Russia's 201st motorized rifle division, Lieutenant General Anatoly Mazurkevich, head of the Defense Ministry main international military cooperation department, said on Thursday.
The parties are considering withdrawal of several units of the division from downtown Dushanbe, Mazurkevich told Interfax- Military News Agency. The subject for discussion is decent settlement of Russian servicemen in their future stationing areas, he said.
The 201st division permanently stationed in Tajikstan will be transformed into a base in the near future. The division is a "reliable bastion," the general said.
He did not disclose the term of the base's establishment saying it will be clear after the Russian-Tajik negotiations are over.
