Federals carry out 67 special operations in Chechnya this week

KHANKALA. Dec 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal forces have carried out 67 special and search operations in Chechnya this week, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Saturday.

Federals destroyed 24 guerrillas, five extremist bases, 15 dug-outs, 119 shelters and arms caches and 384 illegal oil refineries, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. They seized 64 pieces of small arms, 103 grenade launchers, a Shmel flame thrower, 734 grenade launcher rounds and 14 portable radios.

About 200 people suspected of involvement in rebel gangs were detained by law-enforcement bodies.

Artillery units accomplished about 120 firing missions. They inflicted several strikes on extremist bases in the eastern Chechen mountains.
