MOSCOW. Jan 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry has completed the design of new combat banners of armed services and military branches, a source in the General Staff told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
New symbols of military units are designed in line with the plan of combat banner replacement that has been approved by the General Staff and the Heraldic Council under the Russian president. The Land Forces, Air Force and Air Defense, Navy, some military branches and units of other law-enforcement agencies will get new banners.
Unlike current banners with the red background, the new ones will employ a variety of colors depending on the mission of a unit, the source said.
New symbols of military units are likely to be introduced by a presidential decree, the spokesman said. Their distribution is tentatively scheduled for February 23, 2002, which is celebrated as Fatherland Defender's Day in the Russian Federation.
