MOSCOW. Jan 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization member-countries intend to play a key role in Afghanistan's revival, sources told Interfax in Moscow on Friday.
The foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will attend an extraordinary meeting in Beijing on January 7, the sources said.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization member-countries political settlement in Afghanistan, and the overall post- conflict revival in Central Asia," they said.
"The United Nations should play a central role in normalization and post-conflict rehabilitation in Afghanistan," they said.
Elimination of terrorism requires the establishment of a global system under the UN aegis "based on basic norms of international law and a proper understanding of the nature and essence of the processes underway in the world," they said.
At their meeting in Beijing, the six foreign ministers will coordinate their policies on these issues. A regional anti-terror center will be set up within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and a pertinent agreement is likely to be concluded at the organization's summit in St. Petersburg next summer.
Moreover, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Charter will be adopted at the summit.
Both the agreement and the charter are being drawn up "by the council of national coordinators" of the organization.
Furthermore, about two dozens documents will be developed to regulate cooperation in various spheres.
The list of these documents has been coordinated, sources said. The foreign ministers will address these issues at plenary and bilateral meetings in Beijing.
Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and his Chinese counterpart Tang Jiaxuan are scheduled to hold a meeting in Beijing.
