GROZNY. Jan 8 (Interfax-AVN) - In response to the recent series of special operations to hunt down and eliminate extremists, Chechen rebels have stepped up terrorist acts against local civilians, including those cooperating with federal forces.
Two local policemen have been killed in and outside Grozny, the Chechen Police told Interfax on Tuesday.
Policeman Uslam Zhamaldayev, whose body was found in Grozny's Zavodskoi district, was in civilian clothes. But "revenge" is being viewed as the most likely motive of the crime, the Police said.
Another policeman, Alikhan Baskhanov, was shot dead in the village of Pobedinskoye outside Grozny.
A landmine exploded in the village of Goity near the headquarters of the local police detachment on Tuesday morning. One policeman was killed and three others were wounded.
