KHANKALA. Jan 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal sappers found and defused some 30 explosive devices planted by Chechen rebels on Wednesday, a spokesman for the engineering service of the unified federal group in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Most mines and landmines were planted on the roads connecting Argun and Chiri-Yurt, Argun and Suvorov-Yurt, Gudermes and Vedeno.

The share of peaceful tasks is growing in the volume of missions assigned to the field engineers by their command. For example, engineering units are rebuilding economic facilities in Grozny, Gudermes, Argun, Shali, Novye Atagi, Germenchuk and other localities of the breakaway republic. They have already restored some 10km of power lines, two steam plants and some 20 houses and continue building schools and medical facilities.
