STAVROPOL. Jan 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Temryuk guard-ship division of the North Caucasus regional border guard department is prepared to take emergency measures in connection with the ongoing flood, a spokesman for the department headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
The waters of the Kuban River in the Krasnodar territory have risen sharply because of an ice jam in the river's mouth and flooded several houses located on the outskirts of the town of Temryuk, the spokesman said. The town administration and Emergencies Ministry units are evacuating people from the area of the disaster, they have established a headquarters to supervise elimination of the flood consequences.
Forecasters say the weather will become considerably warmer in next two to three days, which might cause a new increase in the water level.
The motorway leading to the division's stationing area was completely flooded as of 7:00 p.m. Moscow time (1400 GMT) on Wednesday and the water level was about one meter. Several off- roaders of the Sochi border guard detachment were sent to the flooded area for possible evacuation of assets and personnel of the division and a checkpoint of the Timoshevo border guard commandant's office. The division has set up evacuation crews and is maintaining permanent communication with the on-duty service of the Emergencies Ministry regional department's headquarters.
The Krasnodar territory border guard department command together and the state civil defense and emergencies department of the Krasnodar territory have agreed on the plan of joint actions in case of force majeure circumstances. Mobile operational groups have been established in accordance with a decision of acting commander of the boder guard department Colonel Yuri Kiporov.
There are no casualties among border guards, and control over all units is stable, the spokesman added.
