MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan has not reduced the arms and drugs flow into Central Asia, Director of the Russian Federal Border Guard Service Konstantin Totsky told the press on Friday.
"The amount of Afghan drugs seized on the Afghan-Tajik border remains the same," Totsky said. In particular, Russian border guards seized eight kilos of heroin at the border on Thursday, he said.
In 2001, almost 5.5 tonnes of drugs were seized on the Afghan-Tajik border.
The Russian border chief also noted that, as was forecasted, the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan has not caused an increase in refugee flows.
"When the operation in Afghanistan began, we forecasted that neither the flow of refugees from Afghanistan to Tajikistan would increase, nor that the drug flow would stop," Totsky said.
