MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov said on Friday extra-budget funds would be used for financing the development of the fifth-generation aircraft, in addition to the funds provided for by the 2002 state defense order.
Additional funds are also to be obtained from Russia's strategic partners interested in the aircraft, Kornukov added.
The general said that a competition for the design of a fifth-generation aircraft is to be carried out in the middle of the year 2002. Among the participants in the tender are the Sukhoi military aircraft corporation, MIG aircraft-building corporation and Yakovlev design bureau. All the companies are to submit a design of their own, Kornukov said.
