NIZHNY NOVGOROD. Jan 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of the Russian Interior Ministry troops have prevented a series of terrorist acts when carrying out engineering reconnaissance in the Chechen town of Argun.
The servicemen belonged to the Shumilovo operational brigade of the troops' Volga district, Major Nikolai Petelin of the district press service told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
According to Petelin, the head of the support group saw an observer in a building near a ruined elevator that the servicemen were examining. The brigade's commander ordered a reconnaissance company to block the elevator.
After searching the territory the servicemen detained a 36- year-old resident of Chechnya who carried notes on movement of federal convoys and conduction of engineering reconnaissance by federals in the area. The notes make it clear that guerrillas were preparing a series of explosions in Argun.
The detainee was handed over to the Argun interim police department.
