Assassination attempt on North Ossetia's interior minister

VLADIKAVKAZ. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - An attempt on the life of Lieutenant General Kazbek Dzantiyev, interior minister of the North Ossetian autonomous republic, was made in Vladikavkaz on Monday.

An explosive device went off near the minister's service car as he was leaving for work on Monday morning, the republic's Interior Ministry told Interfax.

The Ministry ties this attempt with the presidential elections that are to take place in the republic on January 27.

Dzantiyev has more than once said that representatives of some candidates are violating the law by organizing unsanctioned rallies.
