MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - A group of generals and officers led by Lieutenant General Alexander Skorodumov, head of the Armed Forces combat training department, will start on Monday inspecting the progress of winter training in the 2nd general army stationed in the Volga-Ural military district, Lieutenant General Alexander Gerasimov, deputy head of the department, said.
The aim of the five-day inspection is to assess the level of field training in the army units and provide needed practical assistance to the units' command in organizing and holding training in basic subjects provided than technical base and simulators are used to the highest possible extent, Gerasimov told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"It is the first planned complex check of combat training in the 2nd army that was established in autumn last year," Gerasimov added.
According to him, while doing the check Skorodumov will meet 2nd army commander Major General Alexei Verbitsky and his deputies on combat and operational training. "It is important for us to know how the army's command estimates organization of combat training within units, how it plans the development of training facilities for efficient practicing of missions using cheap and energy-conservative forms of the personnel training," Gerasimov stressed.
The 2nd general army of the Volga-Ural military district was established on September 1, 2001. Its headquarters is located in Samara, where the headquarters of the former Volga military district used to be. The main task of the army is to cover the Central Asian strategic theater of operations.
