Russian Air Force gets new commander

MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Colonel General Vladimir Mikhailov has been appointed commander of the Russian Air Force, competent sources in Moscow told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

Mikhailov, 58, served as deputy commander of the Air Force prior to his current appointment, the sources said. He will be succeeded in that position by Lieutenant General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, commander of the 11th air force and air defense army stationed in the Far East.

The previous Air Force commander, Army General Anatoly Kornukov, has handed his resignation. The general has turned 60 this month, which is the time for retirement from the Russian Armed Forces.
