Attempt to mine railway track in Chechnya disrupted

KHANKALA. Jan 28 (Interfax-AVN) - A man who had tried to plant a mine on a railway track in the vicinity of the Mesker- Yurt locality in Chechnya was arrested on Monday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Two explosive devices were found on Monday afternoon by servicemen of the Russian Railway Troops; one was a home-made mine, the other produced in Italy.

Six trains were escorted in Chechnya in the morning on routes from Grozny to Kali-Yurt, from Gudermes to Samashki and from Gudermes to Shali, some 400 tonnes of cargo transported.

The spokesman said that special emphasis was being put on security measures and protection of trains travelling in Chechnya now that the guerillas have become more aggressive in their activities against federal troops.
