Draft Field Regulations of Russian Land Forces dispatched to troops

MOSCOW. Feb 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The first and the second parts of the draft Field Regulations of the Land Forces have been dispatched to military districts and coastal troops of the fleets; the third and the fourth parts of the regulations are to be dispatched to troops in the near future for testing them in practice, head of the Field Regulations Development Department Colonel Vladislav Shabalin told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

The first part deals with combat activities of a division, brigade and regiment, the second with those of a battalion and company. The third and the fourth parts of the regulations are devoted to activities of platoons, squads and tanks; the fourth part deals with machine gun and artillery units and formations.

Two or three permanent readiness units from every military district and fleet have been charged to test the regulations in practice. The new document was developed on the basis of the combat experiment gained through the activities of the Russian troops in the North Caucasian and other conflicts; changes in principles of manning the forces and those in the organizational structure, combat employment and training methods of troops were taken into consideration, too.

Shabalin said two academic periods were to be spent on testing the new regulations, the winter and the summer terms. The testing is to be completed by the end of 2002.

The suggestions and results of the testing are to be analyzed by the commission on the development of new regulations headed by Russian Land Forces Commander and Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Kormiltsev, Shabalin said.
