ALMATY. Feb 4 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - U.S. companies will help the Ulbinsky Metal Works in eastern Kazakhstan to develop a system for separating low enriched uranium from uranium concentrates with subsequent use of processed uranium as a source of energy in civilian reactors, an official in the U.S. embassy's information service told Interfax, quoting a U.S. Department of Energy's report as the source.
Global Nuclear Fuel-Americas LLC, RWE Nukem Corp., the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and National Nuclear Data Center will be involved in the project.
The Metal Works is the CIS's largest producer of fuel for nuclear power stations and one of the largest manufacturers of components for nuclear weapons in the former USSR.
