Radiation source found on roadside in Russia's Kazan

MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax-AVN) - A metal cylinder marked as a radioactive source was found on a roadside in the city of Kazan at 6:15 p.m. Moscow time (1515 GMT) on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Russian Emergencies Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The radioactive device was taken to a local police department. The radiation level of 1,000 microroentgen per hour was registered on its surface, and the emission level made 52 microroentgen per hour at the distance of one meter from the source.

The device has been transferred to officials of the Radon enterprise, the spokesman said. Investigation is underway.
