Russian airborne commander to report to Defense Ministry board Feb. 20

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The Defense Ministry board is planning to hear the report of Airborne Commander Georgy Shpak on February 20, a competent source in the ministry told Interfax- Military News Agency on Thursday.

According to the source, the main topic of the report will be the quality of training in permanent readiness units and formations to operate as a landing party and within a Land Forces grouping, the state of combat equipment, armament and means of airdrop in the troops.

The airborne commander is also supposed to talk about measures aimed at strengthening military discipline and order in the Airborne Troops, preventing emergency situations and desertions of servicemen like the one which took place overnight to Monday in the 31st separate airborne brigade stationed in Ulyanovsk. Ten people, among them fire policemen, were killed as a result of the incident.
