Russia to start mass production of new vessels after 2005

ST.PETERSBURG. Feb 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will build first vessels of new types for the Navy before 2005 and switch to serial production of such vessels from 2005 to 2010, Navy Commander Vladimir Kuroyedov said on Thursday.

Kuroyedov was speaking to participants in the Navy leadership's mobilization training session which is about to end at the St. Petersburg Naval Academy.

"Only 20 percent of the state defense order will be spent on construction of new vessels before 2005, the rest of money will go for repairs of existing combat vessels," Kuroyedov stressed.

The Navy commander praised the role of mobilization training sessions in coordination of activities of the General Staff, Navy command, commanders of fleets and leading naval researchers and made a decision to hold such training sessions once a year, an official in Kuroyedov's administration told Interfax-Military News Agency.
