Moscow military district chief to inspect live firing of artillery, missile units

MOSCOW. Feb 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Moscow military district commander Colonel General Ivan Yefremov arrived on Friday at the Gorokhovets training center where live firing of the district's missile and artillery units are taking place under the auspices of field training, a spokesman for the district headquarters said.

Friday is the last day of Yefremov's inspection trip through the 22nd joint-arms army, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. He is expected to visit the Mulino village, home of the 34th artillery division which is the only artillery division in the Russian Armed Forces, to hear a report of unit commander Major General Vladimir Verkhovoda on combat readiness of the division's brigades as well as to study armament and training facilities.

On Friday afternoon, Yefremov is expected to attend tests in control over fire and units at the Gorokhovets center. He will inspect live firing of missile and artillery units of the district which takes place within the framework of a 30-day field training.

This year's field training involves artillery units of the 3rd Visla motorized rifle division of permanent readiness, 34th artillery division and other units of the 22nd army which is led by Lieutenant General Alexei Merkuryev and headquartered in Nizhny Novgorod.
