Group of gunmen commits several murders in Chechen district capital

GROZNY. Feb 8 (Interfax-AVN) - An armed rebel group entered the Chechen district capital of Kurchaloi, 40 kilometers southeast of Grozny, on Thursday and staged a number of murders and armed assaults.

The district administration says the situation in the town is tense. The population is in panic and fears the continuation of atrocities.

The local police told Interfax that seven people in camouflage armed with assault rifles shot dead police lieutenant Visargi Dushayev and his brother Samradi in their own home. Earlier they entered the house of another local resident, Rasul Ibragimov and shot him dead in the head.

A team of investigators has got down to work.. None of the gunmen have been seized so far.
