MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The nations signatories to the Collective Security Treaty which are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan have started preparations for a first joint military exercise, a source in the CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters told Interfax- Military News Agency on Wednesday.
The exercise is supposed to take place in the Gorokhovets training center of the Moscow military district in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region in mid-May. The training will be supervised by Lieutenant General Alexei Merkuryev, commander of the district's 22nd joint-arms army.
The exercise timed to the 10th anniversary of the treaty's signing will involve units and formations of various armed services of the six member nations. The participants in the war games are to practice defensive operations with live firing. According to the source, the operation might involve fighter, attack and army aviation of the treaty's signatories.
