Russia, Georgia to discuss return of Chechen refugees from Pankisi Gorge

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax-AVN) - An inter-departmental working group is discussing issues related to the return of Chechen refugees from Georgia's Pankisi Gorge.

Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Yuri Brazhnikov said at the meeting, which was held in Moscow, that the group will meet with the Georgian interior minister in Tbilisi. "Key issues on the situation in the Pankisi Gorge, routes for the voluntary transportation of refugees, and legal aspects" will be discussed at the meeting, Brazhnikov said.

Moreover, the group will meet with the Georgian minister for refugee affairs, and heads of the Akhmet and Kakhet districts.

Moscow will offer options for sheltering the Chechen refugees on Russian territory. The group will return to Moscow on Saturday. Its materials will provide a foundation for agreements with Georgia related to the return of refugees from the Pankisi Gorge to Russia, he said.
