MOSCOW. Feb 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia hopes that the time and goals of the military presence by NATO member countries in Central Asia will conform to the tasks of the anti-terrorist campaign in Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov will discuss cooperation in the fight against international terrorism in Paris on Friday, the ministry said.
"The recognition by Russia and France of the UN's central role in the coordination of international efforts is essential," the ministry noted.
Moscow "thinks it important to draw attention to the attempts of certain forces in France to apply double standards to the terrorist threat and interpret the Chechen situation in view of internal political purposes," the ministry said.
The French Foreign Ministry said earlier that they intended to raise the Chechen topic at negotiations with Igor Ivanov.
