Russia to exhibit over 330 pieces of arms, hardware at Defexpo India 2002

MOSCOW. Feb 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The Rosoboronexport state- owned arms trader will exhibit 330 pieces of arms and military hardware at the Defexpo India 2002 arms show.

Rosoboronexport will represent Russia at the show that will take place in New Delhi from February 19 to 23, deputy director general of the company Viktor Komardin told reporters on Thursday. Komardin will head the Russian delegation to the show.

The Russian section of the exhibition was set up taking into account the most promising spheres of Russia's military and technical cooperation with India and other nations of the region, Komardin said.

Twenty-nine Russian defense industry enterprises will exhibit their products in New Delhi. They will exhibit models and posters, hold electronic presentations and demonstrate videotapes and ads of the arms and military hardware they produce. Besides, over 100 items of dual- and civil purpose products will be exhibited.

Taking a question from Interfax-Military News Agency, Komardin said, "It is very important for us that India, being a great country, attracts attention of the nations of the region." India's experience is very important for those nations, and Russia takes it into account. Russia maintains military-technical cooperation with almost all countries of the region, he added.

The program of Russian-Indian military-technical cooperation for the period up to 2010 is being implemented successfully. "Certain changes are made to the program's priorities. Some things become outdated and are excluded from the program, while something new is added to it," Komardin said.

He declined to disclose the value of the program, but said that it made billions of U.S. dollars.

Defexpo India 2002 is a priority for Russian defense industry enterprises, Komardin stressed. The Russian-Indian cooperation in the military-technical sphere has been lasting for 40 years. It is the core of strategic partnership between Moscow and New Delhi. Russia is taking part in the show for the second time.

Defexpo India is among the largest Asian arms shows. It is held under the aegis of the Indian Defense Ministry and Indian Industry Confederation every two years. Products featured at the show are intended for the Land Forces and Navy, including air defense and electronic warfare means, as well as for the army aviation. Dual-purpose products are exhibited there, too. The show covers the area of 17,000 square meters.
