GROZNY. Feb 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen rebels have attacked an engineering patrol of the 8th special purpose brigade of the Interior Ministry troops in the Leninsky district of Grozny injuring two servicemen, a spokesman for the troops headquarters in Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
When the patrol approached the rebels they blasted a powerful radio-controlled landmine and then fired small arms at the sappers, the spokesman said. The federals fired back, killing one attacker and dispersing the others.
Two rebels, Rustam Abdulkhamidov and Khusein Dudayev, were detained in the course of search operations carried out by the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya. Dudayev was wanted for crimes against residents of the breakaway republic.
Policemen and servicemen confiscated five 82mm mortar shells, two portable antitank grenade launchers and some 1,500 small-arms cartridges in Grozny on Thursday.
