NAZRAN, North Caucasus. Feb 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The leadership of the Russian Interior Ministry has ordered several North Caucasus territories to step up combating Islamic extremism, sources in the law-enforcement bodies of the Ingush autonomous republic told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
The order includes a plan of preventive operations on extinction of Wahhabi manifestations.
According to the sources, 105 Wahhabi supporters have been registered in the republic, and preventive actions against them are underway. As a result, law-enforcers have lately detained 12 Wahhabi supporters who were members of rebel groups.
The Ingush law-enforcement agencies do not rule out the possibility of attempts at creating underground Wahhabi centers in the republic in response to law-enforcement measures.
