Russian army can protect Russia, allies - defense minister

MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Armed Forces are capable of ensuring the security of Russia and its allies, said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov.

"We believe that the Russian Armed Forces possess sufficient potential to defend our country and allies," Ivanov told journalists in Moscow on Tuesday.

Ivanov denied remarks by military experts that Russia is seriously lagging behind the United States and other Western countries in developing high-precision weapons.
