Federal sappers defuse two home-made landmines in Grozny

GROZNY. Feb 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal sappers have defused two home-made landmines in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

The landmines were planted by rebels in the residential area of the district.

Policemen and servicemen of the unified federal group confiscated four mines, three artillery shells prepared to be planted as landmines, 10 hand grenades and some 3kg of explosives in the course of a special operation.

In general, last night was considerably calm in Chechnya, the spokesman said. Officials of the police department say this is mostly thanks to increased activities of federal forces and law-enforcement agencies. Four mop-ups and seven pin-point operations have been held in Grozny this week.
