Joint patrolling of Georgian Kodori gorge may start in a week

SUKHUMI. Feb 20 (Interfax-AVN) - The start of joint patrolling of the Kodori gorge by Georgian and Abkhaz servicemen as well as officials of the UN military observers mission and Russian peacekeepers has been delayed for one week, a spokesman for the headquarters of the collective peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone has said.

"The decision on the matter was made at a quadrilateral meeting in the Chuburkhindzhi village of the Gali district of Georgia on Wednesday," the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. The meeting was chaired by the mission's chief military observer Anis Ahmad Bajwa.

According to Georgian Minister without Portfolio Malkhaz Kakabadze, who headed the Georgian delegation at the talks, "the resumption of the joint patrolling of the Kodori gorge is delayed for at least one week for there is a need to clear out some organization matters."

The joint patrolling was supposed to start on Wednesday. An agreement on the matter was reached at the negotiations between Abkhaz Prime Minister Anri Dzhergenia and Georgian State Minister Avtandil Dzhorbenadze in Sukhumi on February 11.
