Moscow city administration reports on measures to support defense industry

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Moscow city government has granted preferential rent conditions to 35 defense industry enterprises located within the city limits in the past four years.

The enterprises were allowed to pay 40 percent of the average rate only, which enabled them to save RUB14.2m (USD458,830) a year.

The information was made public at the official presentation of the third international forum High Technology in the Defense Industry in Moscow on Thursday. The forum is to take place from April 22 to 26, 2002.

At the same time, the city government accepted control of all residential houses that had been built and operated by defense industry enterprises. Thanks to it, the enterprises saved at least RUB760m (USD24.56m) a year.

Besides, the government restructured debts of over 30 enterprises that had been making regular payments to the city budget lately.

Moscow hosts 460 defense industry enterprises, as well as main offices of 36 integrated defense industry corporations. Research bodies amount to 49.3 percent of Moscow's defense industry, while research-production and production enterprises make up 36 percent. As many as 85 percent of the city's defense industry enterprises report to federal executive bodies such as the Ministry of Industry and Science.
