Russian DM to chair CIS Defense Ministers Council session

MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov will chair a session of the CIS Defense Ministers Council in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, Army General Vladimir Yakovlev, head of the CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The session is timed to the 10th anniversary of the council marked on February 14. Nevertheless, the session will have a working nature, as its agenda comprises 14 issues related to coordination of military cooperation within the CIS. In particular, the ministers plan to discuss formation and functioning of regional collective security systems, elaboration of a legal basis for information backing of military cooperation within the CIS and several other aspects of interaction in the security sphere.

A military and research conference will happen under the auspices of the session. It will be entitled "10 Years of the CIS Defense Ministers Council: Experience and Lessons of Military Cooperation". Yakovlev is supposed to deliver a report at the event.
