GROZNY. Feb 27 (Interfax-AVN) - A powerful landmine has been found and neutralized on the road connecting the villages of Starye Atagi and Goity in Chechnya's Urus-Martan district, 500 meters from a checkpoint, the Chechen military commandant's office told Interfax on Wednesday.
The home-made explosive device was assembled on the basis of an artillery shell, 22 grenade launcher rounds and a 400g TNT charge. Its capacity was equal to two kilograms of TNT.
In addition, seven other explosive devices have been found and defused in different parts of the republic over the past 24 hours.
Federal forces detected two large caches apparently owned by rebels. One of them was located in a school in the Leninsky district of Grozny. It contained 1,200kg of cartridges and two hand grenades. An armed portable anti-tank grenade launcher was found at the entrance to the cache. It was supposed to fire in case an alien approaches the place.
The other cache was found on the Shali-Avtury motorway in the Shali district of Chechnya. A concrete well contained two makeshift mortars, three anti-tank grenade launchers and three 200g TNT charges.
