GROZNY. Feb 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Artillery of the unified federal troops group in the North Caucasus has inflicted strikes on rebel gangs near the Urus-Martan, Gekhi, Roshni-Chu and Alkhazurovo villages of the Urus-Martan district, a spokesman for the regional operational headquarters in charge of the Chechnya campaign said on Wednesday.
"The strikes were inflicted in the course of a special operation which took place on the territory," the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. Similar operations happened in the city of Grozny and in the Nozhai-Yurt and Gudermes districts.
Two rebels were eliminated and 16 suspects detained in the course of a pin-point operation on Wednesday, the spokesman said.
In addition to it, federal forces destroyed three arms and ammo caches containing five assault rifles, three artillery shells, a grenade launcher, 46 hand grenades, 1kg of explosives and some 2,500 cartridges. Sappers defused five landmines and six low-power explosive devices.
A courier of a rebel group was detained at the entrance to the Alkhazurovo village of the Urus-Martan district when federals were inspecting a bus.
Heads of rebel groups are willing to get more financial aid from foreign terrorist organizations and exaggerate efficiency of their activity in reports to sponsors, the spokesman said. For example, when a landmine blasts near a convoy rebel leaders report on the destruction of a convoy, elimination of several pieces of ordnance and about 100 servicemen. Such reports have been intercepted by federal forces many times, when the rebels attempted to deliver them to the headquarters of the Muslim Brothers terrorist organization.
