Border guard deserts from his unit in North Caucasus

STAVROPOL. Feb 28 (Interfax-AVN) - An on-duty serviceman of the North Caucasus border guard department left his post without authorization at about 1:00 a.m. Moscow time on Thursday (2200 GMT on Wednesday), the press center of the Federal Border Guard Service told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Alexander Lyaginov, serviceman of the Zheleznovodsk border guard detachment stationed in the Stavropol territory, had on him an AK-74 assault rifle with cartridges and a bayonet, the press center said. The Koltso interception plan has been activated in the region.

Several search parties of the police and Federal Border Guard Service are looking for the deserter. The North Caucasus border guard department is setting up an operations group to supervise the search.
