Motorized rifle regiment practicing night combat in Moscow military district

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The 1st motorized rifle regiment of the 2nd guard Taman motorized rifle division is practicing the tactics of night combat in the course of a two-day company-level tactical exercise which takes place under the auspices of a training session in the Moscow military district, Colonel Yuri Pakhomov, deputy chief of the district's combat training department, said on Thursday.

Commanders of divisions and separate units taking part in the training session are being shown many variants of combat order used by a company in a nighttime offensive, including in action within task forces, Pakhomov told Interfax-Military News Agency. "The tactics of night combat has not been practiced at tactical exercise for many years, and not all the commanders have skills in organizing combat operations at night," the colonel said.

Participants in the exercise have been briefed on combat harmonization facilities of the Taman division. "Such facilities and simulators must be established in each motorized rifle and tank division of the district this year as ordered by Land Forces Commander and Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Kormiltsev," Pakhomov stressed.

The facilities will make it possible to utilize cheap methods of personnel training, They include portable firing-range equipment, a computer simulator that helps train tank crews without spending service lives of tanks and their components and a 500m-long track for driving combat vehicles.

The 1st regiment is led by Colonel Alexander Zavizyon, and the Taman division is under command of Major General Andrei Grishchenko.
