VLADIKAVKAZ. March 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian border guards and other special forces deployed in areas adjacent to Georgia's Pankisi Gorge, in particular those in the Dhzeirakh Gorge in Ingushetia, which leads directly to Georgia's and Chechnya's borders, have been put on alert, a source with law enforcement and security agencies of the Southern Federal District told Interfax on Friday.
Russian border guards expect that members of guerrilla formations in the Pankisi Gorge could venture to break through to the Chechen and Ingush territories, the source said.
Border pickets have been reinforced with units of the Interior and Defense Ministries, the source added.
