GROZNY. March 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Rebels might penetrate into Chechnya posing as refugees who are returning from Georgia's Pankisi gorge, Colonel Alexander Potapov, deputy chief of the Federal Security Service (FSB) department for Chechnya, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
"That is why all returning refugees will be checked to find out whether they are involved in activities of rebel groups," Potapov said. He specified that law-enforcement bodies would subject suspicious individuals to thorough examination to make sure that they are not on the federal or Interpol wanted lists.
Agents of the FSB departments in all Chechen districts will be involved in maintenance of security during the return of refugees, Potapov stressed. "The FSB department has not been received an order to start organization of operations near the Russian-Georgian border though agents of the department are ready for it," Potapov stressed.
