Russian army's chief-of-staff to lead inspection of Airborne command

MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Armed Forces Chief- of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin will head a commission which is to check the administration and headquarters of the Airborne Troops, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"The commission will operate from March 11 to 17, after which the General Staff is planning to conduct an overall inspection of all airborne units," the spokesman said.

The commission will involve officials of main and central departments of the ministry and Land Forces Command. They are to study mobilization plans and other combat documents of the Airborne Staff for the emergency period, check the planning of combat and airborne training in the troops and familiarize themselves with plans of strengthening the military discipline and order and improving elements of service within units.

"The inspection aims to control the progress in the Airborne Troops reform," the spokesman said. The Airborne Staff is hoping that "ways of development of the Airborne Troops as the commander- in-chief's reserve will be worked out" as a result of the inspection," he added.
