Some 7,000 servicemen of Siberian military district need better housing

NOVOSIBIRSK. March 11 (Interfax-AVN) - About 7,000 servicemen of the Siberian military district do not own flats or need improvement of their housing conditions, a spokesman for the district headquarters said on Monday.

The district will get RUB100m (USD3.22m) for solution of the problem in 2002, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency quoting a report on the meeting between district commander Lieutenant General Vladimir Boldyrev and Novosibirsk Region Governor Viktor Tolokonsky.

Lack of housing in the main problem of the Siberian military district, the spokesman said. The number of servicemen in need of their own flats decreased by 600 people in 2001, and the program of state housing certificates is expected to contribute further into the solution of the problem. The district is planning to get some 1,000 certificates this year.

According to the spokesman, some 100 flats will be procured for retiring servicemen in western Russia. A house of 160 flats will be built in Novosibirsk. More housing will be built in the Berdsk garrison in the Novosibirsk region.
