Rebels fail to blast truck on bridge in Grozny

GROZNY. March 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen rebels attempted to blast a Ural truck carrying servicemen of the Interior Ministry troops in Grozny on Monday, a spokesman for the Grozny military commandant's office told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The blast occurred at about 1:00 p.m. Moscow time (1100 GMT) when a military Ural truck was crossing a bridge across the Sunzha River near the 14th strongpoint. The rebels were in a hurry and activated the landmine before the vehicle entered the blast area," the spokesman said. As a result, spalls damaged the vehicle's windshield and fender. The servicemen riding in the truck were not hurt.

Right after the blast the strongpoint's personnel searched the territory but failed to find the bombers.

The movement across the river has been restored.
