KYIV. March 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Director of the Russian Federal Border Guard Service Konstantin Totsky will have a working meeting with Colonel General Nikolai Litvinov, chairman of the Ukrainian state committee on border security and commander of Ukraine's border guard troops, in Kharkiv on March 19, a spokesman for the committee told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The officials will analyze the situation on the Russian- Ukrainian border and discuss escalation of measures against illegal migrants, as well as prospects of further cooperation between border guard agencies of the two countries.
According to the spokesman, the current situation is considerably complicated at several Ukrainian border sections. In the past the strengthening of Ukraine's border with Belarus and Russia was the primarily goals, and other border sections, including those in the west, were neglected. As a result, a great number of illegal migrants is coming to Ukraine from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.
The National Academy of the Ukrainian Border Guard Troops located in the town of Khmelnystkyy is planning to hold a training and methodical session for heads of pickets, checkpoints, border control departments and border guard commandant's offices from Wednesday to Friday. The goal of the training session is to strengthen pickets at several border sections.
Ukrainian border guards have detained over 400 illegal migrants and confiscated over USD1m worth of cargo this year. 75 percent of violations are registered on western border sections, the spokesman said.
