MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters is preparing a command post exercise (CPX) on control over the CIS Unified Air Defense System that is to take place in early April, a spokesman for the headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
The exercise will be led by chief of the headquarters Army General Vladimir Yakovlev and involve operational groups from eight countries such as Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
Participants in the exercise will practice control and cooperation of the system's on-duty forces when rebuffing an aerial attack of an enemy that has broken through the CIS borders. On-duty forces of the system will accomplish their tasks in a regular mode. The exercise is supposed to involve over 50 types of various planes from the inventory of the CIS nations.
The Unified Air Defense System contains 31 surface-to-air missile units, 17 regiments and units of fighter aviation, 23 radio-technical formations and three separate electronic warfare battalions.
