Federals eliminate rebel ambush in Chechnya's Ersenoi village

KHANKALA. March 22 (Interfax-AVN) - A rebel ambush was eliminated in the Ersenoi village of Chechnya's Nozhai-Yurt district by a unit of the unified federal troops group on a raid, a spokesman for the group headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

An equipped firing position with an armed RPG-22 grenade launcher and hand-written data on the time of guard changes and federal vehicles' departure was found near a stationing area of an Interior Ministry separate battalion.

Federal forces carried out five special operations in the Shali, Shelkovskaya, Vedeno, Urus-Martan and Kurchaloi districts as well as in the city of Grozny on Thursday.

They detained 12 people, who were on the federal wanted list for involvement in crimes and guerilla groups. Another 25 people were detained on suspicion of involvement in rebel gangs. Federals also exposed five huge arms and ammo caches and seized 10 small-arms pieces, 10 artillery shells, 53 mines, 47 grenade launchers, 43 grenades, 4.4kg of explosives and some 14,900 small- arms cartridges. 53 illegal oil refineries were dismantled.
