KHANKALA. March 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal frontline aircraft flew about 30 combat missions in Chechnya last week.
The headquarters of the federal force in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday that SU-24 Fencer frontline bombers delivered five strikes at rebel positions in the mountains of Chechnya. In addition SU-25 Frogfoot ground attack aircraft flew five missions and AN-12 Cub military- transport planes - 13.
Air Force and Air Defense units stationed in the area fully control the air space on the Chechen section of the Russian border with Georgia, the headquarters said.
Army helicopters flew 410 combat missions last week delivering five strikes at rebel positions. Besides, 63 flights were made for landing purposes. Some 2,500 army and law enforcement servicemen as well as 50 tonnes of cargo were airlifted. Also 65 flights were made to cover transport helicopters.
