VLADIVOSTOK. March 25 (Interfax-AVN) - High-ranking officials of the Pacific Fleet, commanders of its units, large units and ships and flagship specialists in mine and torpedo training have attended a training session supervised by fleet commander Vice Admiral Viktor Fyodorov, a spokesman for the fleet headquarters said on Monday.
Participants in the training session analyzed in detail results achieved in the course of the mine and torpedo training and outlined ways of training process improvement, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. In order to master application and servicing of mine and torpedo assets, they attended a series of demonstrations at vessels and installations of the Torpedo and Mine Assets Department of the fleet's Makarov Naval institute.
Torpedo training is on a very low level in the fleet, Rear Admiral Yuri Yaroshenko, chief of the fleet's combat training department, has said. The main reason is lack of efficient training facilities and relatively rare sea voyages of the fleet's vessels.
"The fleet has very limited conditions for full-scale training of vessels' combat crews and training of ship commanders in launching a torpedo attack," Yaroshenko said.
He stressed that measures are being taken to equip the fleet's training centers with up-to-date computer simulators. One of them has been installed in the Makarov Naval Institute.
Theoretical training will be supplemented by practical sea voyages of the fleet's vessels scheduled for next few months, Yaroshenko added.
